What is

diversity at CMU?

Welcome to Central Michigan University, a community that values and promotes diversity.

What is diversity at CMU? Diversity is

  • The range of differences among people in the CMU community.

  • An attitude that recognizes the value and contributions of all members of our community.

  • A commitment to respect and provide equitable treatment for members of our community.

As a member of CMU community, you will have many opportunities to explore different aspects of diversity. You will encounter people of different cultures, genders, sexual orientations, religious, countries of origin, and physical abilities. These encounters and interactions will aid us individually and collectively, to build a more inclusive community and help us learn more about ourselves as well as others. At CMU we value the opportunity to share our experiences with you and others. Though the Office for Institutional Diversity sponsored programs and events, such as Get Acquainted Day, ethnic heritage months, GLBT Pride Week, the Unity Ball, diversity forums, and more, we find multiple ways to express ourselves as a group and introduce others to the richness of our unique experience, building bridges versus putting up walls.

We celebrate our diversity and encourage you to build bridges along with us!
